Malala was shot by the Taliban (2012)

On the afternoon of October 9, 2012, Malala boarded a school bus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. An armed man called her by her name, pointed a pistol at her and fired three shots. The assassination attempt sparked a movement of national and international support. Deutsche Welle wrote in 2013 that Malala has become "the most famous teenager in the whole world".
